Industry’s First Complete Class-A Amplifier Biasing & Monitoring Solution!

Excellent Bias Stability over Supply, Temperature & Process Variations
Hittite Microwave Corporation has launched the HMC920LP5E - the first product in its exciting new DC Power Management product line. The HMC920LP5E is the industry's first complete Class-A amplifier biasing and monitoring solution, and is ideal for power management and control in automotive telematics, Cellular/3G, LTE/WiMAX/4G, broadband, military and test equipment applications.

The HMC920LP5E is an Active Bias Controller which can be used to bias depletion and enhancement mode amplifiers operating in Class-A regime. This unique IC houses an integrated LDO to regulate the Drain supply of the targeted amplifier and a negative voltage generator for depletion mode devices. The gate voltage of the targeted amplifier is automatically adjusted to keep the quiescent current of the amplifier constant over supply, temperature and threshold drifts.

The control block in the HMC920LP5E manages the correct power-up and power-down sequence of the targeted amplifier to safely turn it on or off. It constantly monitors the quiescent current of the amplifier and generates an alarm if the current exceeds a higher or a lower threshold.

The HMC920LP5E features an Enable pin to quickly turn the targeted amplifier on or off. A Trigger-out signal is generated when the targeted amplifier achieves stable quiescent operation. Using Enable and Trigger-out signals, multiple HMC920LP5E devices can be daisy chained to bias a cascaded amplifier, which makes it possible to enable or disable the cascaded stages in a controlled and sequential manner.

The HMC920LP5E features many built-in safety features to protect both itself and the targeted amplifier from possible unintentional shorts to ground. The HMC920LP5E limits the power dissipation of the device with a power fold-back protection scheme. It constantly checks for failures and shorts to ground at Vdrain, Vnegative, and other important pins, disabling the system if a fault condition arises.

Housed in a compact and RoHS compliant, 5x5 mm QFN SMT package, the HMC920LP5E is specified for operation from -40°C to +85°C and is ideal for biasing Hittite’s broad line of amplifiers.

New Tri-Band Frequency Synthesizers with Integrated VCO!

Fractional-N Synthesizers with Auto-Calibrated, Wideband VCO
Hittite Microwave Corporation has introduced two full-featured Fractional-N PLL Frequency Synthesizers with integrated Voltage Controlled
Oscillators (VCOs). The HMC838LP6CE and HMC839LP6CE synthesizers include a wideband, low noise VCO with auto-calibration subsystem,
low noise PFD and dividers, and a precision charge-pump. These synthesizers provide exceptional noise performance and industry-leading spurious
performance, while consuming only 650 mW.

The HMC838LP6CE and HMC839LP6CE synthesizers deliver exceptional phase noise and industry-leading spurious performance. No other
pre-packaged PLL solution is capable of reliably delivering this level of phase noise performance: -227 dBc/Hz figure-of-merit (FOM) in fractional-N
mode (-230 dBc/Hz FOM integer-N mode). With common channel spacing (200 kHz, 20 kHz loop bandwidth), Spurious-Free Dynamic Range (SFDR)
of 75 dB is typical. Even under worst case conditions, with the synthesizer tuned very close to an integer multiple of the comparison frequency,
SFDR still exceeds 52 dB.

The HMC838LP6CE is tunable over three separate frequency bands: 780 MHz to 950 MHz, 1560 MHz to 1900 MHz, and 3120 MHz to 3800
MHz. The HMC839LP6CE is tunable over three separate frequency bands: 1030 MHz to 1210 MHz, 2060 MHz to 2420 MHz, and 4120 MHz to 4840
MHz.

New Battery Operated Portable Synthesized Signal Generator
Hittite will be introducing the HMC-T2100B, the first battery operated, 10 MHz to 20 GHz Portable Synthesized Signal Generator. Designed to fulfill signal generation needs in the field or on the bench, and priced at only $14,998, the HMC-T2100B provides the highest output power, lowest harmonic levels and broadest frequency range compared with portable signal generators of similar size and cost.

New RMS Power Detectors
The HMC1010LP4E and the HMC909LP4E are two new low cost, highly flexible RMS Power Detectors for RF power measurement/control in Cellular/3G, LTE/WiMAX/4G, broadband, test equipment and military applications between DC and 5.8 GHz. The HMC1010LP4E offers 60dB dynamic range over DC to 3.9 GHz and is priced $1.99 each at 10,000 piece volumes. The HMC909LP4E offers a broadband single-ended RF input with 40dB dynamic range over DC to 5.8 GHz and is priced $1.49 each at 10,000 piece volumes. Both products have improved modulation performance and power dissipation coupled with an industry-first 4-bit programmable integration bandwidth control interface eliminating the need for cumbersome analog control voltages.

New DC Power Management Product Line
The HMC920LP5E introduces Hittite’s new DC Power Management product line. The HMC920LP5E is an active bias controller which generates a regulated drain voltage and actively adjusts the gate voltage of an external amplifier to achieve constant bias current. It can be used to bias any enhancement and depletion type amplifier operating in Class-A regime with drain voltages (VDRAIN) from 3 V to 15 V and drain currents (IDRAIN) up to 500 mA. The HMC920LP5E is housed in an RoHS compliant 5 x 5 mm QFN leadless package with an exposed backside paddle to improve thermal characteristics.

The HMC881LP5E and HMC882LP5E are tunable low-pass filters (LPF) with adjustable cut-off from 2.2 GHz to 4.0 GHz, and from 4.5 GHz to 7.6 GHz, respectively. A 0 V to 14 V control signal allows the adjustment of pass-band cutoff from the lowest to the highest frequency allowable in only 150 ns. The LPFs maintain stopband rejection of at least 35 dB out beyond 30 GHz.

The HMC890LP5E and HMC891LP5E are tunable band-pass filters (BPF) with two independent voltage controls for adjustment of pass-band frequency and bandwidth. Filter center frequency is adjustable from 1.0 GHz to 2.0 GHz, and from 2.0 GHz to 3.9 GHz, respectively. Pass-bandwidth is adjustable to ±3% of filter center frequency. Like the companion low pass filters, return loss is 10 dB and the BPFs maintain stop-band rejection of at least 30 dB out to 9 GHz.
